Elevator Pitch

India produces over 500 million tons of agricultural residue every year. Most of it is either burned or wasted, while industries are actively searching for cleaner fuel alternatives. The real problem is not biomass availability — it is the lack of a structured supply chain between farmers and industries. URJA-SETU is building a decentralized biomass aggregation network that connects farmers directly with energy demand using cluster-based collection and logistics optimization. We have already validated this on ground by working directly with farmers and identifying real supply constraints like fodder usage and high collection cost. We operate on a per-ton margin across aggregation and processing. By optimizing logistics and clustering supply, we target ₹800–₹3000 margin per ton. Our goal is to build a 100,000 farmer network supplying over 200,000 tons of biomass annually — becoming a key player in India’s renewable energy supply chain.

Problem & Solution

Startups thrive by identifying real-world challenges and solving them with innovation. This section highlights the specific problem they address and the practical solution they’ve crafted to create meaningful impact and lasting value.

Problem
Problem

India generates over 500M+ tons of agricultural residue annually, yet most of it remains unmonetized, leading to severe stubble burning and air pollution. Despite strong demand from thermal power plants under biomass co-firing mandates, the ecosystem lacks an organized supply chain. Farmers have no direct market access, pricing transparency, or aggregation support, while logistics remain fragmented and inefficient, making large-scale biomass utilization unviable.

Solution
Solution

We are building India’s first organized biomass supply network by creating a structured, end-to-end ecosystem. Through large-scale farmer aggregation, village-level collection systems, and biomass storage hubs, we ensure consistent supply. Our optimized logistics model reduces costs, while integrated pellet production and direct long-term contracts with thermal power plants enable reliable, scalable biomass delivery—turning agricultural waste into a sustainable revenue stream.

Market Opportunity & Competitive Edge

Government mandates and energy demand create a ₹10,000+ Cr biomass market with massive supply gaps. URJA-SETU builds a farmer-led aggregation and logistics network, integrating pellet production and marketplace layers. Our edge: early supply control, low-cost sourcing, multi-revenue streams, and deep rural penetration—creating a scalable, defensible energy supply infrastructure.
